Community Rail Partnership - A Feasibility Study

Community rail is a growing grassroots movement made up of Community Rail Partnerships (CRPs) and groups across Britain. The Community Rail Network engages communities and helps people get the most from their railways, promoting social inclusion and sustainable travel, working alongside train operators to bring about improvements, and bringing stations back to life. There are over 60 community rail partnerships throughout the country and these partnerships are part of a federation that is overseen by the Community Rail Network, an organisation that is sponsored by the Department for Transport.

The Community Rail Partnership comprising Severnside Community Rail Partnership, Gloucestershire CRP, Worcestershire CRP and Transwilts CRP will work in partnership between 2021 to 2023 to develop their education provision. They have pledged to create a joint scheme to be accessed by schools and groups supporting young people across each of the four Partnership areas.
Sustainable Hive were commissioned to conduct a feasibility study to inform the business case for an application to the GWR Major Projects and/or Education Fund with an aim for submission in April 2020.
After liaising with educators, rail partnerships, Network Rail, sustainable transport providers and a raft of potential partners and supporters, we were able to create a comprehensive case for funding including a proposed budget, business plan and recruitment overview. The bid was successful, an education team recruited and Platform Rail was born.
